Welcome to the 2013 AKA Region 8 Kite Events Calendar! There are a couple of events listed from Region 7. If you see any mistakes on this calendar, or if you know of other events that need to be added to this calendar, please e-mail the webmaster at: T-Gunn@msn.com

Always contact the kite event coordinators before traveling to any event, because event dates can change, or events can be canceled on short notice for various reasons.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. This will be the last year of the SPI Kite Festival After this year, if the festival continues, it will be a simple fun fly. Event coordinators Bill & Susie Doan need to take a break away from all of the hard work they do with organizing the festival.

We will begin setup at 8:00 on that morning. Big Mikes Kites, Dallas Area Kite Organization, WhataKite will be there. Food, Jump houses, snow cones, old cars, airplanes, bol races, large small kite field, large ground display pieces. to many vendors to mention. A beautiful flying venue. Last year was a huge success, with lots of community participation. In case of rain, the festival rain date is April 13th.

This is a small but fun neighborhood kite festival by the City of Leander (about 20 miles north of Austin). Music, food, fun- public fly, a kite making workshop for the little ones, and team demonstrations by team Austin EOL.

This festival will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio. The Coastal Bend Sky Pirates cordially invite all kite fliers to join us in this endeavor. The main purpose is for the families of Downs kids to get a day just to enjoy the beach, sky, winds, kites, kayaks, food and fun on the water. Rockport Beach is easy to find next to Downtown Heritage District and the Harbor-- (there is a per car daily parking permit required- or $10 annual pass). We will be mid-way down the beach just past the first pavilion.

This year we are changing things up some. The city of Galveston does not allow camping on the beach anymore so we will be gathering on the beach towards Freeport, Texas. The place where we will be gathering is called Stonehenge. go to the website for more info.

This is one of 2 premier kite buggy gatherings in North America! This event also draws other styles of kite flyers and is one great kite flyers gathering, and everyone is welcome! You can now visit the DBBB website and register your name if you're coming. An accurate head count is necessary so this year's Turkey Day cooks will know how much food to prepare for the DBBB kiting attendees, their guest, and family members.
