The city of Benton did not buget funds for a kite festival this year, but due to an amazingly quick, thorough, and successful grass roots effort by Joy Buchanan, the Kite Festival is back on!

The 2nd Annual Benton, Arkansas Kite Festival takes place Saturday April 16th. Benton is just south of Little Rock. Flying will be at the old Saline county airport. Lots of room. They will be giving away kites. there will be vendors of all types. Come out and fly a kite and have a some good old fashioned family fun!

Angelina County EMT Helicopter Tours, Fire, Emergency, Sheriff dept, Hospitals, drug dogs, and others will be there. Local kite club and visitors are welcome. Hot Air Balloons, Big display kites, single line kite displays, kite building classes, Local kiters in the Dallas area to participate. Green day for the school, to go thru the surrounding neighborhoods and pick up debris. Learn about wind power, and other green projects. This will be a fun fly, there will be a car show in the same park just east of here both days about 150 + cars, this is a long standing successful show......The part of the park we will be using has a lot of land we can expand to if need be. We will be just north of the museum complex containing the National Rt 66 Museum, The Old Town Museum and the Farm and Ranch Museum and Blacksmith Shop......The Park has a new carousel with beautiful wooden horses, a train ride, miniature golf course and a swimming pool. A lot of people will be attending these places so there will be a lot of people seeing our kites.......a number of motel/hotels are available at a wide range of cost and I can help locate what you would want based on cost and facilities.......

This festival will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio. The Coastal Bend Sky Pirates cordially invite all kite fliers to join us in this endeavor. The main purpose is for the families of Downs kids to get a day just to enjoy the beach, sky, winds, kites, kayaks, food and fun on the water. Rockport Beach is easy to find next to Downtown Heritage District and the Harbor-- (there is a per car daily parking permit required- or $10 annual pass). We will be mid-way down the beach just past the first pavilion.
